Safer connections

A five-minute public Wi-Fi checklist

Simple habits that lower your risk at airports, hotels, cafés, and shared workspaces.

Confirm the network

Ask staff for the exact network name. Attackers sometimes create lookalike access points that rely on a familiar name and an automatic connection.

Prefer encrypted services

Modern apps and HTTPS websites encrypt data in transit. Avoid bypassing certificate warnings, because they can signal interception or misconfiguration.

Disconnect when finished

Turn off auto-join for networks you do not control and remove old public networks after use. Fewer remembered networks means fewer accidental connections.
